Perfect projection for pathology library

When Raigmore Hospital in Inverness received funding from the NHS to modernise its pathology meeting room, it sought to replace the substandard projector that required the room lighting to be very low, leading to difficulties when reading patient notes. Another issue was that multiple images could not be projected and therefore different sources of patient related information could not be shown simultaneously.

Cameron Communications of Aberdeen was selected to design and install a bespoke system incorporating all of the requirements indicated by Raigmore. John Johnstone of Cameron Communications commented: “The requirements of the department were for a high resolution projector with good grey scale characteristics and the DLA-SX21 from JVC fitted these specifications. In the future, when the PACS system is installed there will be the possibility of upgrading the projectors to the Dicom 14 grey scale standard improving image quality even further. We have used the DLA-SX21 on a number of medical projects and the results have always been excellent.”

As several high quality images needed to be displayed simultaneously, two JVC DLA-SX21 projectors were installed. The projection quality is such that they can be operated with full room lighting on for most viewing requirements. The projectors were linked through two PC towers, installed in a custom built console. The PCs allow radiology images from the hospital’s Kodak imaging system to be imported for direct viewing at the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, at which cancer cases are discussed by specialists.
