The latest addition to Hill-Rom’s expanding family of AvantGuard beds, which are ergonomically designed to optimise the safety of patients and care-givers alike, has made its debut.
Building on the success of the highspecification AvantGuard 1200 bed, of which there are more than 50,000 units now in use worldwide, the new AvantGuard 800 meets the requirements of customers for a bed that not only promotes increased patient independence and mobility but, when combined with Hill-Rom’s range of surfaces, including therapy mattresses, also provides a high level of effective pressure relief, thus reducing the risk of complications associated with immobility.
The AvantGuard 800 bed has been designed with a strong emphasis on patient and care-giver safety. The option of specially-designed egress handles facilitates easy patient self-mobilisation, while also taking the weight as care-givers assist a patient out of the bed, thus reducing the risk of injury. When used in conjunction with the standard features of electric hands-free height and head-section adjustment, this effectively turns the bed into a rehabilitation tool which virtually eliminates the need for lifting during mobilisation procedures.
Other safety features include side rails with a double lock-out system, a low position of 39 cm to minimise the potential seriousness of patient falls, and the location of the brake pedal away from patient egress/ingress areas to reduce the chance of accidental deactivation. All AvantGuard beds are compatible with recommended Hill-Rom’s specialist range of pressure-relieving mattress surfaces – a combination which minimises the risk of patient entrapment and patient fall.
Like the AvantGuard 1200 bed, the AvantGuard 800 bed also benefits from the option of an ergonomically designed control panel on a flexible arm which is always within reach of the patient and care-giver.
Emergency positions can be achieved quickly and safely if required, and the headboard is removable to ensure quick access to the patient.
