Fulbourn Medical and Maquet Hospital Solutions recently worked together as turnkey project partners to provide a new operating theatre at Southampton General Hospital, which has been located within a clean store area at the end of an existing theatre corridor.
Fulbourn Medical’s turnkey ‘package’, provided to meet a 12-week programme schedule, included full architectural, structural, and mechanical and electrical design to HTM/HBN requirements. The fit-out included provision of a new ultra clean ventilation and associated air handling plant, Maquet pendants, Maquet PowerLED operating theatre lights, general lighting, a Bender operating room panel, UPS and IPS electrical systems, structural steelwork, and flooring. Fulbourn Medical provided on-site project management and coordination of services, working in tandem with the client Trust’s estates department and theatre staff. The new theatre features one of the UK’s first Maquet Variop modular wall systems. The system is available in various colours, and comes with an antibacterial powder coating. Prefabricated components reportedly minimise installation times; the wall elements can also be easily disassembled and reinstalled without special tools.
