Ipswich Hospital’s traditional kitchen prepared hot meals for patients twice a day but the healthcare facility’s unusual layout often meant that meals arrived with patients some time after the food had been cooked. Ipswich Hospital wanted to improve its service to patients and called in support services company OCS.
In the past, food was cooked by the hospital’s chefs for lunchtime and evening meals and had to be kept warm in ovens while it was distributed to 35 wards and over 800 patients.
This often resulted in patients receiving food that was far from piping hot and Ipswich Hospital was concerned that its catering was an area that could be improved on in its commitment to exceptional service standards.
To help resolve the issue, Ipswich approached OCS, which specialises in providing catering and other outsourced services to the healthcare sector. OCS worked in close partnership with the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust to overhaul the kitchen facilities and transform the way it caters for staff, visitors and patients – a project that would span 18 months and would cost over £400,000.
