Balfour Beatty has begun building a new £20 m pharmaceutical manufacturing unit (PMU) for South Devon NHS Foundation Trust in Torbay.
The two-storey building will provide over 78,000 ft2 of production, warehouse, and office space. The design incorporates high quality elevations and sustainable measures with a BREEAM Very Good rating. Paula Vasco-Knight, the Trust’s CEO, said: “The centre for excellence will make and sell essential pharmaceuticals to hospitals throughout the UK and internationally, with any operating surplus re-invested back into the local NHS and patient care.”
