‘Engineering UK 2013’ is the annual flagship report of Engineering UK, the charity that promotes engineers, engineering, and technology, by raising awareness of the profession and the contribution of engineering to society.
Examining ‘the current state of engineering’, the report ‘highlights the crucial role engineering has to play in delivering growth for the UK, and identifies action for Government, businesses, professional bodies, and the third sector, to take, to seize opportunities at a national level’. Commending the publication, Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (shown during a recent visit to Plessey in early April), said: “To make the right decisions it is vital to have quality information and analysis, and I applaud EngineeringUK’s ongoing efforts to deliver thorough and insightful information to guide us in ensuring the industry has the skills it needs.” The report was the subject of a roundtable meeting at No. 11 Downing Street, hosted by Minister of State for Business and Enterprise, Michael Fallon, which brought together leaders from industry and education. Its findings were also previewed, prior to publication, to members of all of EngineeringUK’s advisory panels.
