An award-winning hospital has opened a new surgical cardiac ward which it says offers patients and their families ‘the equivalent of five-star accommodation’.
The Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital’s Oak Ward is said to be the UK’s first such ward its kind; it is designed around the hospital’s aim of providing a ‘patient and family-centred care model’, where families and carers ‘can be fully involved in their loved ones’ care’. Among the ward’s key features are pull-down beds for visitors, and a dedicated family room, featuring televisions, computer access, microwave, and vending machines. Raj Jain, Chief Executive of Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, said: “Our new ward enables patients to be supported by the people that matter most in their lives at the time they are needed the most.” Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital was named Provider Trust of the Year in last year’s Health Service Journal Awards, in recognition of its work in developing and implementing its ‘Patient and Family Centred Care Vision’.
