IHEEM was pleased to host the IFHE President, Ole Rist, and the organisation’s General Secretary, Gunnar Baekken, at a recent meeting of the International Technical Platform held at Arup’s offices in London, which followed a meeting of the Institute’s Council.
In addition to participating in the meeting, the pair were keen to see how the role that IHEEM undertakes as Secretariat for IFHE is developing. Discussion took place on the provision of an IFHE members’ survey, to be undertaken in a similar manner to that currently being undertaken by IHEEM. The General Secretary will provide information to allow the survey to be initiated shortly, and it was agreed that Greg Markham, IHEEM’s President, will present the results to the next IFHE Council meeting in Malaysia in September. At the same meeting, Julian Amey, IHEEM’s CEO, will give a presentation on IHEEM’s five-year strategic plan. Greg Markham also updated the IFHE President and General Secretary on work being undertaken in India by Ian Hinitt, a member of IHEEM, as a result of co-operation with the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry. Prior to the IFHE Council meeting on 10 September (not, as stated in May and June’s HEJ, on 9 September) this year in Kuala Lumpur – being held just before the Biomedical Engineering Association of Malaysia’s 2013 Hospital Engineering Conference and Exhibition opens at the same venue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Putrajaya – the IHEEM President and CEO will attend ‘mini-symposia’ in Hong Kong and Singapore.
