Healthcare estates personnel responsible for the safe management of water systems and Legionella management need to ensure that they are compliant with the new Approved Code of Practice & Technical Guidance.
All aspects of the recently revised ACoP (L8) document and current HTM04-01 are included in Eastwood Park’s water hygiene course portfolio.
Two new shorter three-day courses have been introduced by the training centre to meet the individual requirements of the Responsible and Authorised Person, and that of the Competent Person:
• Practical water hygiene compliance – Authorised and Responsible Person.
• Maintaining safe water systems – Competent Person.
Both courses are City & Guilds-accredited, and based around the core requirements of the HSE’s Approved Code of Practice L8, and HTM04-01, for the appropriate and safe operation, maintenance, and monitoring, of water systems in order to control water hygiene.
Eastwood Park’s courses address both Legionella, and ‘emerging threats’ such as Pseudomonas, and are tailored to healthcare and general industry.
Two Eastwood Park tutors, health and safety risk management expert, Alan Hambidge, who specialises in legionellosis and water hygiene, and renowned water safety expert and ex-HSE inspector, David Harper, have combined to create ‘a current and stimulating learning experience’.
Alan Hambidge emphasised: “It is about practical guidance in the workplace, and being able to swiftly assess current levels of compliance and what needs addressing. We will be equipping staff with an essential skillset for healthcare estates personnel, as well as craftsmen or trades with responsibilities for general water systems.”
These new three-day courses complement Eastwood Park’s existing one-day courses covering:
• Water supply (water fittings) regulations.
• Disinfection of water systems.
• Cooling towers.
• Water hygiene governance (for duty-holders and senior management).
