The Government and Construction Leadership Council will unveil its plans for the future of the UK construction industry at Talk Construction, a conference that the organisers describe as ‘a landmark event’, to be held on 25 and 26 November this year at London’s Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster in front of more than 500 delegates.
The Government’s Chief Construction Adviser, Peter Hansford, a key speaker, will spell out the industrial strategy for construction, a plan designed to ensure that the UK continues to thrive in the face of increasing global competition. As well as outlining the key objectives of the new strategy, he will explain how the Government intends to support key areas such as the supply chain, and SMEs, and how companies can gain access to essential finance.
Talk Construction will be chaired by broadcaster and Channel 4 news ‘anchor’, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, and, the organisers say, ‘offers the perfect platform for leaders from the industry and Government to come together to analyse, discuss, and plan the future, in the context of national and international economic conditions’.
The organisers add: “Talk Construction is also the first event of its kind in the sector to be research-led, not profit-based, and will also include keynote speeches from some of Britain’s leading construction professionals.”
The conference themes will, the organisers promise, ‘cover all of the major issues currently affecting the construction industry’. Andrew Wyllie, Costain Group chief executive, will talk about the drive to recovery and future competitiveness; Richard Threlfall from KPMG will focus on attracting investment; David Philp from Mace Group will discuss the challenges to be faced by embracing BIM technology, and Judy Lowe from CITB will focus on overcoming challenges with leadership and skills gaps.
Other companies to be providing speakers include Wates Group, HSBC Bank, KPMG, Morgan Sindall, and the UK Green Building Council. The organisers add: “The added benefits of networking with other delegates, and the chance to speak to a number of key industry suppliers, including sponsors Autodesk, Asite, Celotex, Hays, Velux Modular Skylights, Bauder, CSCS, and Lafarge Tarmac, make this an event well worth the time out of your working week.”
“Talk Construction is about looking at new ways to work with the Government to build the foundations for competitiveness, investment, and growth,” said Chris Blythe, chief executive of the CIOB. “With backing from innovative and forward-thinking companies across the breadth of the industry, we can drive the recovery that will help to build our way out of the recession.”
