Review interviewers needed

As IHEEM members may be aware, the Engineering Council guidelines have been amended. SARTOR is something of the past and in its place is UKSpec. Competencies have changed, academic levels have moved up a gear but the need continues for fully trained interviewers and mentors.

IHEEM members who are registered with the Engineering Council will understand the significance of having good mentors and trained interviewers.

As a result of the changes and an increase in membership, IHEEM needs to establish a new register of interviewers and mentors for all grades of registration.

A series of training workshops will take place throughout the UK. If you would like to become an IHEEM Professional Review Interviewer or Mentor, please contact Tammy Simmons on 023 9282 3186, or send her an e-mail at tammy.simmons@iheem.org.uk

In a message to Institute members, she says: “Please consider these roles, particularly if, when you were going down the registration path, you needed support from a mentor, and, when you had your interview, you welcomed encouragement from the panel.”

An individual who becomes a mentor or interviewer not only helps the Institute and the applicant but also contributes to his or her own CPD. Both roles are extremely rewarding and recognised by peers and IHEEM.

It is also hoped to run a series of “Get Registered” workshops at which members who are interested in becoming registered engineers can meet mentors, professional review interviewers and other members who have recently achieved registration with the ECUK.

These workshops will provide opportunities to discuss issues with people who have been in a similar situation. Those interested in the workshops should contact Tammy Simmons.
