Haigh hosts Duke of Kent

HRH Duke of Kent recently toured Ross-on-Wye facility of bedpan macerator and single use pulp product manufacturer, Haigh Engineering, where he met management and staff, saw how the company uses the latest manufacturing technology, and witnessed Haigh’s commitment to apprentices and ‘developing its people’.

Starting in the drawing office, the Duke saw how concepts are turned into 3D virtual models, which are then issued to Haigh’s manufacturing department for engineers to undertake the required machine tool programming, manufacture, and testing. Demonstrating a keen engineering interest and knowledge, he engaged with engineers, shopfloor, and office personnel.

MD, Mark Brian, said: “We were especially delighted to be able to welcome the Duke, and it was an honour and a pleasure to be able to showcase our manufacturing facilities. We are exceptionally proud of our British manufacturing pedigree, and this, coupled with our position as a family-owned business, made the event a real milestone for all involved.”

Championing apprenticeships’ value in UK manufacturing, Haigh says almost one third of its current team started their careers via this route.

After the tour, the Duke unveiled a plaque commemorating the visit, and enjoyed lunch with members of the Shepherd family, who founded the business in 1955, and continue their active ownership as directors.
Next year Haigh celebrates the 50th anniversary of its Sluicemaster range.
