Every coat has a silver lining

Liquid Plastics has launched its hygiene coating systems incorporating silver ion technology. The silver ions present within every coating attack bacteria in three different ways to cause the reproductive functions within the bacteria to break down, thus preventing bacterial growth.

For centuries silver has been used to provide hygienic solutions because of its unique anti-bacterial properties. Historic records show the use of silver dates back as far as Roman times, when silver urns were used to preserve wine. Today silver has various uses and can be found in everything from plasters to catheters and curtains. However, Liquid Plastics is the first company to utilise this state-of-the-art technology to produce high performance, elastomeric coatings.

Silver is a naturally occurring element and as such has no toxicity to humans. It has therefore been predicted that the use of silver will play a major role in the future fight against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria such as MRSA.

The new range consists of Sterimatt SI, Sterisheen SI and Sterisept SI. These products are all silver ion variants of Liquid Plastics’ hygiene coatings that have a track record of over 40 years in the hygiene sector. Each product is suitable for use in wall and ceiling areas where hygiene protection is required, including healthcare establishments, food and drink production facilities and pharmaceutical cleanrooms.

Key benefits of the new coatings include their proven resistance to a range of bacteria (including E.coli and MRSA), non-leaching anti-bacterial protection throughout the life of the coating and their 99.9% kill rate.
