Biodynamic lighting advances discussed

A recent North West Branch technical seminar hosted by Whitecroft Lighting in Ashton-under-Lyne, and chaired by Cundall Engineering Consultancy, focused on ‘Biodynamic lighting and advances in LED technology’, writes Branch Secretary, Tony Winter, energy and environmental manager, Technical Services, at the Tameside Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Andrew Bissell of Gosforth-based Integrated Medical Interiors spoke about the current revisions to lighting design, and particularly the use of daylight modelling, similar to that used for thermal calculations, with potential resulting savings in construction and heating costs. He went on to talk about biodynamic lighting, related to the body’s natural circadian rhythms, and presented the company’s IMI Pod, an off-site fabricated, modular, integrated patient environment.

Matt Paskin from Whitecroft Lighting then spoke on advances in LED technology, detailing what specifiers should be looking for when designing new or retrofit installations. Delegates then visited the healthcare installation at Whitecroft, including the IMI Pod. The facility has a range of typical healthcare installations, allowing visitors to get first-hand experience of how the systems are integrated.
