Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has appointed construction and engineering company, MTX, to supply, install, and commission, a new modular endoscopy decontamination unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI).
The new building will be installed above and around the existing Building 34, Physiotherapy Unit gymnasium, at the BRI, which will itself be retained as part of the development. The project involves the demolition of two existing single-storey, brick-built buildings – a patient toilet and waste store; diversion of existing, and provision of new, drainage around the new building; construction of new footings and foundations; the installation of a new steel structure, and, finally, installation of the new four-storey modular construction building above the existing gymnasium. The current proposal is for the top floor to be fitted out as a compliant decontamination facility for endoscopes, and for the two floors below to be left vacant for Trust use. The building modules are scheduled to be delivered in the first week of May, with completion targeted for late July. MTX commercial director, David Hartley, added: “This contract presents an exciting new opportunity for MTX, as this is a new client, hospital site, and Trust for us.”
