Stryker Corporation has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Berchtold Holding – whose portfolio includes surgical tables, equipment booms, and surgical lighting systems ‘geared towards maximising efficiency and safety in operating rooms and ICUs’ – for a purchase price of US $172 million (£103.2 m).
Berchtold, a privately held business with operating facilities in Germany and the US, has supplied ‘customer-centric surgical infrastructure equipment’ for over 90 years. In 2013 it had sales of approximately US $125 million (£74.9 m). Stryker says the combination of Berchtold’s ‘complementary solutions’ with Stryker Endoscopy’s existing operating room equipment portfolio will create ‘a comprehensive, quality-focused offering equipped to satisfy a wide range of customer needs around the globe’.
