Thorlux Lighting, a British-owned company that has manufactured luminaires in the West Midlands for 77 years, says while the key ‘historical’ requirement for mental healthcare lighting has been to provide vandalresistant, anti-ligature luminaires.
The ‘modern need’ is to combine these elements with a design that ‘provides a domestic quality and an ambience that promotes rehabilitation and recovery, while heeding the need for energy efficiency’. Thorlux claims to be ‘at the forefront of LED technology’, with ‘market-leading luminaire efficiencies, and long-term performance’. The company explained: “Those using our luminaires and lighting controls could cut their energy costs by up to 75%.”
