On 26 September 2015 the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directives for water heaters (Lot 2) come into force, meaning that water-heating products sold in the UK and other countries in the European Economic Area will need to meet minimum energy performance criteria in order to be legally placed on the market, and will require an energy label.
Here Alan Clarke, technical support manager at Heatrae Sadia, explains more.
The European Union (EU) has put an energy policy in place to address the major energy challenges facing us all today – namely climate change, an increasing dependence on imports, the strain on energy resources, and access to affordable, secure energy. Back in 2007, the European Council adopted ambitious energy and climate change objectives for 2020: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% (rising to 30% if the conditions are right); to increase the share of renewable energy to 20%, and to make a 20% improvement in energy efficiency (known as the ‘20-20-20 target’).
