Healthcare development specialist, Ryhurst, part of the Rydon Group, has been selected by Teignbridge Primary Care Trust as the private sector partner on a £27 million PFI project to redevelop Newton Abbot Community Hospital in Devon. The project is the first major PFI health contract for the Rydon Group since the company underwent a management buy out earlier this year.
Rydon Construction, also part of the Rydon Group, has been selected as the contractor to build the facilities. Additionally, Rydon Property Maintenance will undertake the facilities management contract on the site over a 30-year period.
Bob Bond, chief executive of the Rydon Group and chairman of Ryhurst said: “We are pleased to be working with Teignbridge Primary Care Trust to provide a range of vital healthcare services for local people. This hospital will provide the community with up-to-date facilities in a welcoming non-urbanised and non-institutionalised environment.”
Newton Abbot Community Hospital is one of several NHS contracts currently being undertaken by Ryhurst. Among these projects, the company is developing mental health facilities worth more than £64 million for the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, and is nearing completion on the development of the £29.8 million Lymington New Forest Hospital on behalf of the New Forest Primary Care Trust.
