Theatres transported by road

Two new operating theatres have been delivered by road to Beneden Hospital, near Cranbrook, Kent.

The theatres, system-built to a British design and constructed in Germany, were transported on seven massive low-loader vehicles.

Due to the logistical challenges of positioning the units between the existing theatre and the outpatients’ department, a 1,000 tonne crane was required to lift the modules into place.

The facility project, costing £1.4 million, embraces anaesthetic areas and scrub rooms in addition to two laminar flow theatres. Air conditioning and medical gas services have been incorporated into the units and will simply “plug in” to the hospital.
