Railite is a new lighting solution which has been launched by Aura Corporation Ltd, manufacturers of Actulite Polarised Daylight Lighting and AuraTech Electronic LED Lighting.
Railite has been designed to meet the exacting standards of the Disability Discrimination Act and current health and safety legislation. Its function is to illuminate corridors and staircases in a manner which combines low-cost operation with the safety of low voltage (12 volts).
Comprising a banister handrail manufactured in straight lengths of wellseasoned timber, and accurately routed to accept the AuraTech electronic linear lighting unit, Railite directs light to the floor or staircase. It has an effective maintenance-free operational life of 12 years if operated continuously, with proportionately longer life if lower daily hours apply. The lighting module can be replaced at the end of this period if required. The AutoTech linear lighting unit is incorporated into the timber banister rail so that walkways and staircases are safely and clearly visible even in zero lighting conditions.
Railite is suitable for those situations where very low light levels are required in the room space but where, for reasons of health and safety, it is essential that the floors or staircase are easily visible. Being made from a natural material, it is user friendly and resistant to accidental damage. It is supplied in a sealing primer coat and can be painted or varnished.
The handrail has a nominal cross section area of 100 x 50mm with smooth surfaces and radiused corners. It can be supplied in lengths from 600mm to 5 metres maximum in 100mm stages. In extreme circumstances, longer lengths could be manufactured if transport can be arranged. It comes with a twin core cable and transformer for safe operation.
