Case study examples of SHP’s successful use

The following examples illustrate how continuous dosing with SHP can be used successfully to resolve Legionella problems in healthcare and other facilities. These particular cases all utilised EndoSan.

This product employs an ionic silver stabilisation system claimed by the manufacturers to allow hydrogen peroxide to remain residual in a water system for longer. A silver nitrate complex (containing 320 ppm silver) is used in the formulation of the stabiliser catalyst to provide a convenient source of soluble silver. However, the stabiliser that is added to hydrogen peroxide in EndoSan is not silver nitrate itself, but a complex mixture containing silver and nitrate, which is registered under REACH (HSE: Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals).

Hellesdon Hospital, Norwich

This hospital takes its water supply from a borehole that supplies two large water storage tanks, which in turn send water to all the domestic water services across the site. Continuous dosing with SHP commenced in 2008 because of recurring TVC contamination of the water supply. SHP dosing has continued at a level of 20 ppm to 30 ppm for the past six years. No Legionella has been detected, and the ‘original TVC problem has not recurred.
