Medirest, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has successfully renewed its contract with the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust.
The five-year, £35 million deal will see the catering and soft services provider – which has worked with these organisations at Chase Farm (pictured) since 1997 – continue to deliver a range of catering and support services to the two Trusts, including portering, catering, retail, security, grounds and gardens maintenance, domestic and window cleaning, pest control, and postal services. The contract includes the addition of four extra sites, taking the number covered to 14.
The extension to the partnership will see a new online food ordering system introduced. This will work alongside the Compass Group’s patient dining offer, ‘Steamplicity’, a patented cooking system that steams food in four minutes using minimal equipment in a healthy, nutritious way, ‘while saving energy and space, and reducing waste’. Medirest will also rebrand the existing restaurants ‘to reflect an enhanced health and wellbeing approach’, and develop a new retail shop. These services will be delivered by 400 Medirest personnel, for over 3,000 staff, as well as patients and visitors.
Martyn Jeffery, of the Royal Free London NHS Trust, said: “We’re going to see a lot of redevelopment across this site over the next few years, and teaming up with Medirest will help reflect these changes in more aspects of our service – such as the innovative food ordering initiative and the patient dining system.”
