‘Smarter’ access control system

Managing any healthcare facility is a juggling act, and where service-users are vulnerable, well-designed fixtures ‘can make a huge difference’ to their safety and dignity.

So says designer and manufacturer of anti-ligature door and window hardware, Primera Life, For environments such as mental healthcare inpatient units ‘where patients need more freedom’, it has developed PassPort – a proximity access control system which allows patients to control access to their own space. “Simple to operate using a card, fob or wristband, the system provides privacy and security for personal possessions,” explained the company. “Crucially, it can also save staff time.”

PassPort is designed to be safe for use in environments where there may be a risk of self-harm. It is solid and robust, with tapered edges and anti-ligature handles. The standalone system is battery operated, so there is no danger from wiring; all the components sit on the outside of the door.

PassPort is just one of a range of ‘smart products’ that Primera Life has developed for use in mental healthcare facilities.
