Innovative solutions, bespoke expertise

A commercial door and window fabricator and installer discusses some of the key demands it faces, including from mental health sector specifiers, and highlights its expertise in bespoke manufacture.

Responding to the many challenges of the UK healthcare infrastructure – and in particular the specialist mental health sector – has never been more vital. So says commercial door and window fabricator and installer, Polar, which has established itself over a period of over 30 years as a company that ‘not only welcomes the challenges, but which is able to produce absolutely bespoke, high quality window designs for the needs of individual Trusts, architects, and specifiers, involved in the healthcare sector UK-wide’. The company’s sales director, Sandy Baxter, examines the keys to its success.

Polar was established in 1983 in Middlesbrough, originally providing glazing and associated services to homes and businesses in the North East. The quality of the company’s work led to invitations for involvement in larger and more commercial projects, and Polar quickly became a trusted supplier to some of the UK’s best known names in construction, such as Laing O’Rourke, Balfour Beatty, Kier Construction, Morrison Construction, and Carillion.

Work expanded to schools, hospitals, and private sector new-builds and refurbishments across the UK, and Polar was soon being selected by an increasing number of local authorities, from Redcar and Cleveland to Durham, Darlington, Bradford, North Yorkshire, and East Riding, among others, for increasingly large, and ever more complex, projects.
