International engineering and project management consultancy, Royal HaskoningDHV, is partnering with architectural and engineering consortium, VK Réservoir A, on the construction of the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi, which is set, on its 2020 completion, to be one of the largest private hospitals in Frenchspeaking Belgium
By ‘separating functional areas and phasing commissioning’, Royal HaskoningDHV and VK Réservoir A say they will ensure the hospital opens ‘in record time’. The contract value for Royal HaskoningDHV is ‘several million euros’.
With 950 beds, and covering 130,000 m2, the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi will be ‘one of the most important healthcare locations in southern Belgium’. The single-site hospital will replace five existing hospitals dispersed across the city.
The functional design ‘places patients centre stage, surrounded by the required medical services’. Each building has clearly defined functions, and will be constructed using a design and build approach. ‘The main structure can thus be delivered very fast, and the market approached for subsequent phases’.
Royal HaskoningDHV is also supporting the consortium with installation design and cost control.
