A new benchmarking survey initiated by point-of-care systems provider, Hospedia, harnessing the company’s Bedside Terminals, and designed and run by Picker Institute, an international charity ‘dedicated to the pursuit of health and social care quality improvement’, has successfully gathered near-real-time patient feedback from 75 UK NHS Trusts.
Since May 2014, over 70,000 responses have been received relating to ‘overall patient satisfaction’, covering key areas of communication, confidence and trust, staff availability, staff introducing themselves, patient involvement, privacy, and respect and dignity. Hospedia says the initiative has provided ‘a unique opportunity for Trusts to monitor and externally benchmark their near real-time performance nationally’.
It added: “Our bedside units have provided an ideal platform for collecting patient feedback, and have played a major part in The Confidence in Care Benchmarking Survey’s superior combination of guaranteed confidentiality, ease of use, immediate submission of responses, low possibility of response bias, and minimum burden to staff.”

The frequently updated results are accessible 24/7 on the ‘Picker Results’ online reporting system. The software offers login security and guarantees confidentiality for Trusts; at any time hospitals can compare how they are performing against their NHS counterparts, and highlight areas requiring improvement.
