Helping spinal cord injury patients recover

Brandon Medical has contributed to the installation of patient entertainment units in the Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

The company has provided 32 ceilingmounted monitor arms to support the entertainment systems designed for patients with spinal injuries. These include a rotational upgrade that allows the touchscreen monitors to be moved in a circular motion from portrait to landscape, enabling patients to watch their films and TV programmes without compromising their recovery.

The patient entertainment units were purchased by Spine, a registered charity which aims to be the voice of Pinderfields Hospital’s spinal patients. Brandon Medical said: “Spine has contributed immensely to providing spinal patients with facilities and activities, including newly decorated dining rooms and arts and crafts workshops.”

Spine has appointed Kevan Baker OBE, a former paralympian, to the NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Spinal Cord Injury. Previously part of the patient user group, he is behind many projects to support spinal injury patients’ recovery and rehabilitation. He said: “We looked all over the world for a suitable monitor support arm, and then found Brandon on our doorstep.”

Brandon Medical is now looking forward to contributing to the installation of eye gaze units in the Pinderfields Hospital’s Quadriplegic Unit.
