Interfurn Medical Systems, a specialist in low-level extraction, has now installed its first high-level extraction system, which is both HTM 03-01 compliant, and fully skirtless, screenless, and flush-mounted, at St Albans City Hospital.
It explained: “We were approached in 2015 by Fulbourn Medical to design and supply a full ultraclean ventilation system, but with limited space in the theatre, installing our low-level system would not be an option. Traditionally, high-level extraction systems offer a compromised solution which can suffer from poor entrainment, and create a restrictive clinical environment. We aimed to create a system that gave leading levels of entrainment protection, and an ergonomic operating area.”
In early 2016 the project, which included integration of AHU and BMS equipment, was completed on time, and Interfurn handed over a fully validated theatre which it believes is the first of its kind.
