Innovation and flair show sector is in good health

Last month’s IHEEM Awards Dinner in Manchester recognised innovation, flair, and expertise, in areas ranging from carbon saving to product design and architecture.

Speaking at Healthcare Estates 2016, the DH’s director-general of Finance, David Williams, praised the healthcare sector’s ‘unsung heroes’ – emphasising the importance of recognising the vital role that healthcare estates and facilities and architectural and construction supply chain professionals play both in keeping healthcare facilities running efficiently ‘day in day out’, and in providing first-class patient care environments in the first place. This year’s IHEEM Annual Awards – presented at a gala dinner at the Manchester Mercure Hotel on October 4 – provided the chance to do just that. Award-winners this year included the team behind Europe’s first children’s hospital to be built in a parkland setting, a lifelong decontamination services specialist, and a community healthcare Trust that has cut its carbon emissions by over a quarter through a wide-ranging sustainability programme. HEJ editor, Jonathan Baillie, reports.

The 2016 Annual Awards Dinner, attended by almost 500 guests, was held at the Manchester Mercure Hotel on the evening of the first day of this year’s Healthcare Estates event. After a drinks reception, attendees made their way to the hotel’s International Suite, where Master of Ceremonies, Andy Powell, introduced IHEEM CEO, Julian Amey.

Having welcomed guests, Julian Amey asked IHEEM’s new President, Peter Sellars, who is head of Profession for NHS Estates & Facilities at the Department of Health, to say ‘grace’. Andy Powell then exhorted those gathered to enjoy the evening and the awards, and guests sat down to enjoy a three-course dinner.
