Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has described as ‘brilliant’ the service provided to it by Devon Medical Equipment as part of a CT scanner replacement programme.
The hospital equipment specialists de-installed a GE Lightspeed 16-slice CT scanner at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield, and transported it three miles for re-installation at the Sheffield Northern General Hospital, where it is being used on a short-term rental basis while a new scanner is being commissioned. Both hospitals are operated by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Devon Medical Turnkey Solutions simultaneously refurbished a radiology department meeting room at the Northern General into a CT suite to accommodate the GE CT.
The Trust’s CT & MRI manager, Jenny Braithwaite, said: “Devon Medical’s CT rental solution has proven invaluable during our CT replacement programme. Having Major Trauma Centre status, we need resilient CT cover 24/7.”
The Trust benefited via ‘a competitive buy-back offer’ for the old system, combined with ‘a competitive weekly rental fee and responsive breakdown cover’ for the CT at the Northern General for the replacement project’s duration, including full removal costs at its end. The Trust added: “The costs were 50% lower than via alternative rental options, the scanner was sited within our radiology department, rather than outside in a car park, and, being our own CT system, there were no staff training issues.
“The removal/installation engineers worked evenings and weekends to fit in with our service provision. The entire Devon Medical team was brilliant.”
