BCS calls for healthcare IT change within CfH

The British Computer Society (BCS) says in a new report that current problems within the NHS’s IT Programme demonstrate the need to realign the system as a key enabler of business transformation.

The BCS said that many NHS staff view informatics, such as the NHS Connecting for Health (CfH) programme, as having little relevance.

According to the BCS Health Informatics Forum Strategic Panel, the CfH programme can still make a massive contribution to safer and more appropriate patient care and remains in full agreement with the Wanless report that 4% of NHS turnover should be spent on business led informatics.

The BCS Health Informatics Forum (BCSHIF) is composed of volunteers who are experts in the field of IT in health. It brings together ICT experts, informatics experts, academia, service personnel, users, suppliers and patients.
