Leeds-based Brandon Medical has once again teamed up with community interest company, Medical Aid International, which is helping to set up a new children’s surgical unit in the district of Mbarara in Uganda.
Brandon, which manufactures hi-tech medical equipment including medical lighting, medical architecture, audio-visual equipment, and associated control and power products, has worked with Medical Aid International over about the past two years, providing specially designed and selected surgical equipment, both new and re-conditioned, to local communities in the developing world.
The company said: “The hugely rewarding project at Mbarara – we have supplied our Quasar eLite 60 operating theatre light – will see the creation of a properly equipped local facility for children’s surgical procedures. All the medical aid healthcare projects we undertake purposefully feature the same equipment, to assist in the training of doctors and surgeons, and ensure they can work across different sites, building a vital network in these often remote communities.”
Brandon Medical says the Quasar eLite 60 offers an ‘unrivalled’ 160,000 lux output, plus ‘near perfect colour rendition’, and ‘the largest light beams of any current product’.
Tim Beacon, Medical Aid International’s MD, said: “Brandon’s Quasar eLite 60 is superb. To say the surgeons and team are excited is an understatement.”
The theatre lighting was installed by Medical Aid, with Brandon thanked for its advanced planning and remote support during the installation process.
