Nursing home opens on St Vincent’s site

A new £6 million nursing home has been opened on the site of the former St Vincent’s Hospital at Pinner, Middlesex. The 18 acre home, built by construction contractor Osborne, can accommodate 60 beds in single occupancy rooms.

The new home was commissioned by the St Vincent Trust and designed by Richard Heath Architects.

Construction work began in January 2005. Each room has en-suite facilities including a wheelchair-accessible shower, hand wash basin and toilet. The home is a registered charity and any profits will be re-invested for the benefit of the home and its residents.

In keeping with the former hospital’s Catholic traditions, the home will house a range of retired priests, members of religious orders and laity. Stephen Cottrell, managing surveyor at Osborne, said: “A very good relationship and understanding between the site team and client developed during the project and every opportunity was taken to create the type of atmosphere that would be so important to the residents. This included creating access to the surrounding landscaped gardens with wheelchair-friendly paths and raised flower beds.”
