Novus Property Solutions has helped reconnect two parts of the site at Royal Stoke University Hospital via an extensive elevated walkway repair.
Situated over a busy site road, the bridge connects the Clinical Education Centre (CEC) and the hospital’s Lyme Building, but was rusting and in disrepair. Novus operatives started repairs in October 2016, with the bridge’s location requiring a fully encapsulated scaffold to provide a safe working location and protect the public throughout. The team also implemented a comprehensive road and traffic plan and a pedestrian diversion.
The three-month works began with the removal and replacement of the bridge’s existing lighting with LED lighting. With the bridge heavily rusted, Novus operatives repainted the structure after repair works were completed to protect it and prevent further decay, applying a Rust-Oleum high performance anti-corrosion paint in a blue satin finish for long-lasting protection. The walkway surface was blasted before being treated with a highly durable antislip finish.
Works were completed in January 2017. Adam Beech, the hospital’s estates officer, said: “Novus carried out the works to a superb standard on what was a very challenging project given the bridge’s location. Its operatives worked in a sensitive manner throughout to provide staff, patients, and visitors, with a safe walkway.”
