Interfurn says its recent success in operating theatre ultraclean ventilation projects ‘reinforces the reputation for flexibility’ of the specialist company, which says it can create an ultraclean solution ‘regardless of any challenges presented’.
Interfurn said: “We remain fully ‘hands on’ throughout the manufacturing, installation, and commissioning stages, and ensure that the system is HTM 03-01 compliant before handing over to the client.”
Two of many recent successful projects completed by the company were undertaken at the BMI Hospital in Cheadle (see photo), and at Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital. Interfurn explained: “The BMI Hospital in Cheadle recently installed the ceiling track-mounted Philips Flexmove X-ray imaging system in a new hybrid operating theatre. With the hospital needing an ultraclean canopy to integrate with this equipment, we designed a completely flush, skirtless canopy which does not impede the use of the scanner. A further challenge was that the ceiling void presented severe restrictions, which meant our finished canopy was just 500 mm deep, while still maintaining a 290 cm finished ceiling height.”
At Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, meanwhile, the Trust-selected imaging equipment was the floor-mounted Siemens Artis Zeego system, which has an articulating arm. To allow maximum flexibility and use of space, Interfurn was asked to design a 4 x 3 metre flush-fitting canopy, making the installation ‘the largest area UCV in the UK’. The solution required a combination of low and high level recirculation and an offset from centre stem, both to allow unrestricted movement of the Artis Zeego and other surgical equipment, and to comply with HTM 03-01 recommendations.
