Profile of IHEEM International Committee

The International Committee was set up to act as the focus for international affairs, advising Council on the significant issues, and managing the Institute’s international activities.

The Committee’s principal responsibilities are to:

Provide UK (IHEEM) representation on the Council of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering (IFHE), including the IFHE Executive Committee and other working groups when appropriate.

Provide briefings to, and take reports from, Institute IFHE Council members, E members, and committee/working group members, to ensure that the mutual benefit between the Institute and IFHE is maximised.

Make UK contributions to IFHE Newsletters when appropriate.

Supervise the activities of the Institute’s staff in connection with the Service Provider’s Agreement for the provision of administrative services to IFHE.

Ensure that the interests of IHEEM are effectively promoted on the international stage and to liaise with world bodies (eg WHO, UN) on matters of mutual interest.

Report to Council and the broader membership on relevant international activities and to bring forward proposals and initiatives on international issues for the consideration of Council.

Respond and comment on Engineering Council proposals and notifications concerning international matters.

Monitor and contribute to the evolution of Engineering Council-led issues; Dublin Accord, Washington Accord, Sydney Accord, French Bilateral, UK/France/Italy Trilateral, Engineers Mobility Forum, FEANI.

Two important international meetings in 2007 are the IFHE Executive and Council meetings to be held at the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society conference in Calgary in early September and the IFHE Europe meeting in Vienna, also in early September. IHEEM will be represented at both. IFHE Europe is a recently established regional group within IFHE.

Bob Chatwin is the IHEEM representative and IHEEM president, Phil Nedin has been invited to chair one of the two engineering working groups which are being set up within IFHE Europe.

Laurie Hadley has recently retired from IAC after serving as president of IFHE for a two-year period, commencing in 1998 at the IFHE Congress in Edinburgh.
