Specialist provider of healthcare alarm and communication solutions, Static Systems Group, recently welcomed members of The Worshipful Company of Engineers (WCoE) to its Staffordshire headquarters.
The WCoE is a highly regarded modern livery company with 300 members, all Chartered Engineers or Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Static Systems has a long-standing association with the company; founder and chairman, Lawrence Turner, served as Master in 1995. The visit’s aim was to provide an insight into developments and trends that have impacted the business. Presentations gave delegates an overview and brief history of Static Systems since its formation in 1964, and a technical history of its ‘pioneering product development’ – from nurse call’s early days in the 1960s, when it was instrumental in the transition from electromechanical systems to solidstate devices. The visitors also learned about the numerous additional functions required for modern nurse call systems, and toured the facility, including the Design and Innovation Centre (pictured), with its full-size replica of a modern fourbed hospital ward.
Richard Groome, Master of the WCoE, said: “This was my first technical visit as Master, and it was a great success, with the level of technical insight pitched perfectly. Our members dubbed the visit both informative and inspirational. It’s evident the key principles Lawrence Turner established on forming the company remain in place today: investment in R&D, a heavy emphasis on technical innovation, and a commitment to apprenticeships and training. Through all the technical advances and industry challenges that Static Systems has faced over the past five decades, the company has clearly adapted and thrived.”
