‘Hi-tech revolution’ for resident care

Resident care has undergone ‘a hi-tech revolution’ at a Sheffield care home as it becomes Yorkshire’s first to install what the manufacturer dubs ‘a pioneering new generation of nurse call system designed to prioritise care for the most vulnerable’.

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Anne Murphy, officially unveiled Courtney Thorne’s Altra Care system at the city’s Broomgrove Nursing Home. Donna Pierpoint, the manager at Broomgrove, said: “We’re constantly on the lookout for ways we can improve resident care and provide our residents with an extra level of safety and reassurance. This new nurse call system is absolutely fantastic.” The legacies of two former residents funded the wireless Altra Care system, which automatically monitors response times, and ranks their priority.

The Lord Mayor said: “Very impressive, and great to meet 101-yearold Betty, and Rod with Multiple Sclerosis, who explained how comforting the new call system is, and how much more confident they felt wearing the wrist band and with the specially adapted button for Rod.”
