Food miles cut, diets enhanced

Following its delivery of hard and soft landscaping and the recently awarded grounds maintenance contract for Liverpool’s Alder Hey in the Park children’s hospital, commercial landscaping company, Ground Control, has been supporting Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust by donating soil, wood sleepers, and gardening tools, to enable the local community, patients, and staff, to plant and grow organic ingredients on site for use in patient meals.

Ground Control, reportedly ‘the UK’s fastest-growing external maintenance and commercial landscaping company’, is supporting the Trust’s ‘Grow Your Own’ initiative at the Springfield Park site. The ‘new’ Alder Hey is Europe’s first hospital to be built in a park, and the Trust has been seeking other ways to enhance the natural environment and empower the local community to interact with nature. Taking over and developing the local Springfield Park, it is aiming to create ‘an exciting, innovative, inclusive, sustainable greenspace for Liverpool, fostering health and wellbeing for generations to come’.
