Technology playing an evergreater part

Lee Hales, operations director at bespoke parking specialist, Indigo, outlines the company’s approach to ensuring the best possible parking experience for patients, staff, and visitors, on increasingly busy hospital sites.

Managing traffic flow in the interest of all users has become an increasingly important, and sometimes contentious issue for NHS Trusts across the UK. Hospital sites are often located in city centres, and must cater for the needs of a diverse range of users – among them are patients who have come for a consultation or to receive care; families who come to visit their loved ones, and doctors, medical, and administrative personnel. With so many people arriving on hospital grounds, parking spaces are now at a premium, and are increasingly costly to maintain. Simply put, there is not enough supply to meet demand, and providers and their clients must collaborate to ensure that the facilities work as efficiently and fairly as possible.

With space at a premium, NHS Trusts up and down the country appreciate how the ‘smart’ use of an estate, together with new design and technologies, can alleviate on-site congestion, making hospital car parking a smoother and fairer experience for patients, visitors, and staff. Indigo is working with NHS Trusts and NHS Foundation Trusts to implement a number of forward-thinking initiatives in order to address these ongoing issues.
