The use of wireless PIR detectors from CP Electronics during a refurbishment of the Outpatients’ Department at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in Broadgreen has substantially reduced labour costs, the specialist in energy saving controls says.
The company said: “The intuitive wireless design of the solutions, coupled with our experts’ consultative approach, helped significantly simplify the installation process, saving valuable time and money.”
A key challenge was the design of the Outpatients’ Department, which features three separate hallways intersecting to form a crossroads leading to the hospital waiting room. While the lighting in each was run on individual circuits, the consultant on the project wanted to run them on the same one, allowing them to be switched on and off simultaneously whichever entrance was used. This would ordinarily have meant re-wiring the lighting back to the distribution board before installing the PIR-activated contactors used to operate the light fittings, but this would have added additional complexity, cost, and time.
Following a discussion with the CP Electronics sales manager on the project, wireless PIR presence detectors were recommended to reduce the amount of wiring needed. Only power supplies for the wireless PIR presence detectors were required, significantly reducing installation time. Using wireless PIRs saved a minimum 25% on total labour costs, while for the Trust presence detectors help avoid unnecessary energy consumption by activating the luminaires only when required.
