Managed services and multi-vendor maintenance specialist, Althea, has now completed the installation of three new linear accelerators for the Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at Royal Derby Hospital.
Althea’s team also managed the decommissioning of the three old radiotherapy systems, and refurbished the bunkers and control rooms around each. The replacement plan started in January 2016, with the review of the Trust’s equipment specification and requirements provided at the beginning of the 10-year managed service contract.
The first of three end-of-life radiotherapy systems was decommissioned the same month, and, following the successful installation of the first new system, the second decommissioning process then started, with the second system installed in December 2016. The third new ‘linac’ has recently been installed. Alongside the three new Varian TrueBeam units, the Trust has bought a Varian ARIA oncology information system and an Eclipse treatment planning system.
