IHEEM’s London Branch has visited Brooklands where Mercedes has opened its UK Centre on the site of the Brooklands Motor Museum.
There were two cinema presentations, the first showing historic films of the development of motoring through the ages and the second a 3D presentation in which viewers were seated on active armchairs that gave the sensation of movement as the manufacturing process of a Mercedes car, from metal to finished product, was shown.
Two members of the group, Malte Neilson and John O’Leary, had the added experience of driving around the Mercedes test track at high speed in one of the new range of Mercedes sports saloons.
Following lunch, the group moved to the Brooklands Motor Museum and was given a guided tour of the vintage cars and the large hangers to view a selection of WW1 and WW2 aircraft. This was followed by a visit to a Concord aircraft for “The Concord Experience”.
