Rockfon ceilings for health assessment clinic

Rockfon acoustic ceilings have been installed in a new ‘state-of-the-art’ health assessment clinic, Preventicum, in Central London, that offers ‘bespoke, indepth health evaluation and diagnostics, including full-body scanning’.

Sonnemann Toon Architects designed the interior ‘with a high-tech specification to give the feel of a luxury hotel’. Architect, Galina Borovikova, explained how Rockfon Mono Acoustic helped ‘create a sense of opulence’. She said: “It combines the elegance of a seamless ceiling with outstanding sound-absorbing qualities, which enhances the sleek interior, and ensures client privacy.”

Rockfon Mono Acoustic is said to offer ‘a unique solution for ceiling design’; it combines high acoustic performance with a smooth, white, seamless surface. Rockfon said: “The Class A sound absorption of our monolithic ceiling significantly decreases echo and reverberation levels, for a relaxed environment where confidential communication between doctor and client is optimised.”

Rockfon worked with long-standing partner, Panarc Interior Solutions, to deliver the finished ceilings. The latter’s Business Development manager, Daniel Davies, explained: “We’ve always worked well with Rockfon, and find its products are easy to fit and always look good. For this project acoustics were a key factor, along with visual appearance and cleanability for the medical areas. Rockfon fitted the brief perfectly.” The ceiling components were supplied by CCF Harmondsworth.

The product’s Class A sound absorption, and the stringent hygiene characteristics required in the medical assessment rooms, saw Rockfon MediCare used there. Rockfon says its ‘highly durable, easy-to-clean’ surface is resistant to MRSA ‘and other ubiquitous microorganisms’.

The non-magnetic properties of Rockfon’s Chicago Metallic Alu 740 aluminium grid saw it chosen for the Rockfon Blanka dB 46 ceiling in the MRI suite. The ceiling helps prevent the sound generated by the two MRI scanners disturbing the radiographers and travelling to neighbouring rooms.

In the ‘open and light’ waiting room and circulation areas, the ‘smooth, deep matt, super white’ surface of Rockfon Blanka helps create bright, comfortable environments. “The ceilings’ 87% light reflection and 99% diffusion improve the lighting conditions utilising natural daylight as much as possible, and contribute to energy savings,” Rockfon explained, adding: “All our ceiling products are manufactured from stone wool. This makes them non-combustible; they achieve the highest reaction to fire rating, A1. They are also durable, costeffective to maintain, and enhance any interior design. “
