Two new facilities from BCS

Barnsley Community Solutions (BCS) has marked the commencement of building work on its state-of-the-art Grimethorpe and Cudworth developments with a turf-cutting ceremony at each site in early August 2007.

Due to open in March and August 2008 respectively, the Centres are being developed through a public/private sector (LIFT - Local Improvement Finance Trust) partnership involving Barnsley Primary Care Trust (PCT), Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and Community Solutions for Primary Care.

Alan Wright, chairman of Barnsley Community Solutions, said: “Monday [the day of the ceremony] was a very special day for the people of Barnsley and we are proud to have marked the start of construction work which will make a major contribution to the quality of life for the residents of Cudworth and Grimethorpe. Once this work is completed, local residents will be able to enjoy top class facilities giving them high quality health care and community services.”

Cudworth will be a larger joint service centre hub offering general medical services provided by four General Practices, a range of community health services and access to a full range of local government services via Barnsley Connects Service Centre.

Although smaller, the Grimethorpe Centre will still have a huge impact on this area, which since the closure of mines has suffered significantly. Consequently, the local authority has worked hard to regenerate the area and this health centre, which will provide flexible and adaptable health facilities.

Morgan Ashurst is building the two new super surgeries in Barnsley following the company’s successful completion of similar schemes in Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe and Worsbrough.
