‘Village’ will meet different care needs

Lifschutz Davidson Sandiland’s planning application for a 166 unit “care village” has won a resolution to grant permission from the London Borough of Hounslow.

The councillors voted unanimously to recommend the development of the “care village” in Isleworth, subject to finalising the Section 106 Agreement. Both officers and members considered the proposals “to be very well designed and a good quality scheme.”

The scheme is for the Congregation of the Sisters of Nazareth, an order of Roman Catholic nuns, whose worldwide mission is care for the elderly. The Sisters initiated a new programme of transforming existing homes into care villages in South Africa in order to provide a mix of accommodation better designed for frail older people.

The proposals provide accommodation for approximately 250 residents over the age of 60 “in need of personal care” in a delightful village environment on the banks of the Thames at Isleworth. The accommodation is classed as C2 use and so is distinct from general market housing.

The plan is arranged around the existing listed Georgian villa known as the White House, (which will be restored to provide the central social facilities) through a series of interlinking courtyard spaces, with different planting schemes and sustainable, naturally draining landscaping, including an enhanced riverside park and a new river walk on this stunning site.

The new plan provides several types of accommodation each providing a different level of care. These include a 30-bed care home, incorporating an EMI facility (for high levels of care and dependency), 38 assisted living units (providing medium level care) and 87 extra care units (for lower levels of care).

There is also provision for eight guest suites and three carer’s stations, with sleepover rooms and assisted bathrooms.
