Darryl Pitcher, who took over as the IFHE’s President from Douwe Kiestra at the event, reports on a highly successful 25th IFHE Congress held in Brisbane last October, where, in addition to the human attendees, the venue – Brisbane City Hall – also welcomed a variety of Australia’s wildlife.
The IFHE’s 25th international Congress descended upon the beautiful city of Brisbane, Australia in October 2018, and with it 300 delegates and sponsors from near and far. Keynote speaker Tim Longhurst quickly deduced that some came to foreign shores motivated by the search for knowledge and engagement, while a sense of obligation moved others. Some left loved ones behind, others invited them to attend the Partners’ programme, and still others hoped love would dawn, but all enjoyed the aura created by a well-planned and flawlessly executed Congress.
The International Federation of Hospital Engineering convened the Executive Committee meeting, and the bi-annual Council meeting in the days immediately prior to the IFHE Congress, and the business of the IFHE was attended to. The Executive Committee considered the necessary business of the Federation, including budget reviews and strategic partnerships, and considered reports and activities from international member associations. Also of significant importance was the ongoing relationship with the World Health Organization and associated activities, the publication of the IFHE Digest, and a review of the previously developed Working Groups, with a special focus on the future of the IFHE.
