Off-site benefits on DVD

Portakabin subsidiary Yorkon has launched a new DVD to illustrate how off-site construction can be used in the healthcare sector. The product is designed to assist professionals in health authorities and Trusts, who are considering off-site construction for new hospital buildings, treatment centres and extensions. It looks in-depth at one challenging project, from the factory to site and with interviews with senior nursing and estates staff following handover.

Footage of the construction process, as well as the finished building, are featured for the new three-storey healthcare facility for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which is believed to be the UK’s largest single hospital scheme to be built off-site. The 4,950 m2 hospital building, which is enabling up to 10,000 additional inpatients to be cared for each year, started treating patients just nine months after start on site. It accommodates three new state-of-the-art 28-bed wards and six clean air operating theatres, with a striking full height glazed link to the main hospital and three ambulance bays.
