Structural solutions complete hospital overhaul

The NHS Trust Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital has recently undertaken a major overhaul of the main hospital entrance and car park. This included a glazed entrance canopy, bus shelters and a covered walkway, all designed, manufactured and installed by the Architectural Metalwork Division of Andy Thornton from Elland, West Yorkshire.

Thorntons was asked by the Hospital Trust to submit design proposals and detailed costings for the supply of the metal structures for the entrance and main thoroughfare. The contract, valued at £225,000, included the manufacture and installation of a new glazed canopy for the main entrance to the hospital, together with a 50 metre run of covered walkway/bus shelter. The walkways/bus shelters (pictured) were fabricated in steel and feature a curved glazed roof with bronze-tinted polycarbonate panels. The 10 mm toughened glass side screens have sand blasted decorations incorporating the NHS logo. The complete structure was powder coated in white with NHS corporate blue detail to the guttering and splash plates.
